Kale with smoked sausage!

So today I will show you how to make (as some say) the national dish of The Netherlands. It?s called kale (also known as kail, cow cabbage of tree cabbage) with smoked sausage.

This is what kale looks like.

The funny thing is that the Dutch people don?t eat it in the summer! They only eat it in the wintertimes. Sometimes even 4 or 5 times a week!

Let?s cut the cattle and start with the recipe.

  • 1 kg potatoes

  • Salt

  • Peper

  • 500 grams sliced kale

  • 1 smoked sausage

  • 100 grams of diced bacon

  • 20 grams of butter

  • 150 ml warm milk

Cookingtime: Its about an hour

How do you do it?

  1. You need a big cooking pan and you have to poor a layer of water in there of about 4 cm. Make sure he water cooks before you follow the next step.

  2. Peel the potatoes and add them to the water. When the potatoes cook, you have to add some salt and add the smoked sausage and the kale.

  3. Turn down the temperature of the stove and cook the potatoes and kale in about 15 to 20 minutes.

  4. Check if the potatoes are well-cooked and while you do that you have to bake the diced bacon in a pan without butter.

  5. After this you have to filter the potatoes, kale and smoked sausage so that there is no water in it anymore.

  6. Stirr the potatoes, kale, milk and butter together to make it creamy.

  7. Scoop the diced bacons through the kale, and your finished!

In holland it is traditionally served with the smoked sausage next to it. In the middle of the kale you make a small hole to put gravy in there.

ENJOY the meal!
